My Comments and sentiments around receiving this honor
What truly defines the successes and accomplishments at IAA, is not about me, but is about:
- The student’s joy and engagement and their continued exploration of the arts and what it means to be a community;
- The teacher and staff’s collaborative spirit and true commitment and belief in the arts and our unique instructional vision;
- Parents who provide continued support and choose to send their children to IAA, and finally;
- Community partnerships. These partnerships are vital and create so many opportunities for our students and staff and help develop and provide the financial support for so many of our arts initiatives and programming. (I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge them by name - Flynn Center, Burlington City Arts, LCCMF, VT Arts Council, VCF, VSA VT, VTYO, VMT, Young Tradition Vermont);
Students, staff, parents, partners, while I help guide and facilitate all these dynamics, the real work occurs in the minds and hearts of those who support me.
IAA is doing some amazing and innovative educational programming and I am so pleased that this recognition allows us to highlight these exceptional practices and celebrates the people that help carry them out.
We are 7 years along in the magnet school model. We are still at the beginning steps of a much longer journey. While we are thrilled for this commendation, we have so much more to do and accomplish. We appreciate and look forward to the the community’s continued support as we cultivate and deepen these extraordinary artistic learning opportunities for the children and families of the Burlington School District. Thank you.
